The legendary Bavarian in-line 6-cylinder engine is constantly improving.
Reviewed and reinforced by BMW Motorsport, the S58 engine, with a biturbo engine that replaces the mono turbo of the B58, is an authentic achievement. Fuel pumps, engine management, reinforced engine components, almost everything is modified to bring the excellence of today’s practices to an in-line 6-cylinder engine. The S58 began its career in the X3M/X4M with two types of engines, 480 and 510 hp.
Following the criticisms of the S55 engine to which a particle filter required grafting, BMW devoted a great deal of development to the engine’s soundtrack. These efforts paid off since, for a Euro 6d vehicle, it offers an astonishing sound that should also serve as an example.
This engine reveals its fair share of novelties, with, for example, the possibility (with xDrive all-wheel drive) to send the power to the rear wheels, but also revised undercarriages that would almost make us forget that the vehicle weighs in at more than 1700kg.
For BMW, the stakes are huge with this engine since it is intended to embody the sportiness of the Bavarian manufacturer over the next eight years.
Our engineers took real pleasure in working on this engine, and the results were not long in coming. Originally, the engine already offered a generous power of 530 horsepower, that is 20 horsepower more than initially announced by the manufacturer. After our intervention, the result is simply astounding: WOT reprogramming allows the S58 to deliver 650 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, making the choice of the X-drive option a must!
We select the vehicle which combines the most significant criteria contributing to pollution, in particular: consumption, weight, air resistance (drag coefficient) and type of transmission. For this S58 engine, we opted for the BMW X3M 3.0T (M-competition) model. If the vehicle successfully passes the numerous pollution tests, the official verification body can logically conclude that the other, less polluting models in the range will also obtain positive results. This is why, within WOT, such importance is given to the engine code.
At WOT, we invest heavily in research and development to provide you with an experience where performance and reliability go hand in hand. However, it is possible that during a routine inspection, the manufacturer has detected that your vehicle has undergone modifications. Even if the improvements made by WOT are homologated, this detection can lead to the loss of the factory warranty.
For this reason we have created an additional motor warranty, specifically designed to meet your highest demands.
