While many carmakers are focusing on the transition to all-electric vehicles, our experts at WOT appreciate the advances being made in internal combustion engines. In this technological race, the Japanese market stands out in particular, with Toyota and its new GR Yaris. A true champion of hybridisation, Toyota is once again demonstrating its expertise with this compact, sporty and accessible model, equipped with a remarkable powertrain. The first Yaris GR was equipped with the world's most powerful three-cylinder engine (261 hp), and was the perfect example of performance... but not particularly reliability, as we'll talk about later.
At WOT, we immediately saw the potential of the new Yaris GR, which is why we bought it from the outset. Reprogramming this first model proved complex, mainly due to the lack of information on the calibration of the Denso Gen3 ECU. However, thanks to intensive testing and our technical expertise, we were able to optimise this engine. After reprogramming, our development Yaris GR reached 298 hp and 420 Nm of torque, transforming this little city car into a real performance beast.
We are one of the few tuners to have passed the TUV emissions test, which means we can offer approved reprogramming of this remarkable 1.6 Turbo engine.
The Yaris GR 2024 retains everything that made the previous version exceptional. Its 3-cylinder 1.6 Turbo engine now develops 280 hp and 360 Nm of torque, delivering an unrivalled driving experience. Equipped with all-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential as standard, it ensures maximum grip and stability, even in the most demanding conditions.
The new Yaris GR benefits from a series of updates that further enhance this already iconic model. The interior has been redesigned, with the dashboard lowered by 50 mm and the seats mounted 25 mm lower, improving the driving position, a weak point of the first model. The digital dashboard, inspired by WRC cars, offers easy access to all the controls.
To address reliability issues with the 1.6-litre turbo engine, Toyota has introduced stronger, lighter pistons and an improved valve train. A new sub-radiator and an intercooler spray system optimise cooling. The bodywork, meanwhile, has been reinforced with 24% more adhesive and 13% more welds, increasing rigidity. Increased spring rates maintain better body control, while the optimised Track differential mode varies torque distribution for maximum grip.
Toyota has also responded to owners' requests by finally offering an automatic gearbox. This is an automatic gearbox with a torque converter, combining low weight with everyday driving pleasure.
We are delighted to announce the arrival of the newest member of our fleet, our new Yaris GR 2024 will now undergo its first tests so that our team can evaluate the performance of the new engine and the behaviour of the new automatic gearbox.
