In order to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle optimization, we are delighted to inform you of the recent installation of a brand new 47 kW DC charging station at our facility. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to improving research and development in the field of electric vehicles.
Strategically positioned, our new charging station provides a fast charging power of 47 kW in direct current (DC), allowing most electric vehicles to be fully charged in less than two hours. This functionality is of crucial importance for our battery resistance tests, which are subjected to significant charging and discharging. It also allows us to maintain an optimal charge between different test sessions. Indeed, with each visit to the dyno, the battery charge decreases by about 1%. After several iterations, the charge level reaches a threshold where the Battery Management System (BMS) starts to regulate the power to preserve the range of the vehicle, which has a negative impact on the results obtained during the tests.
Thanks to this new charging station, we are able to significantly reduce our waiting time between charges, allowing us to devote more time to research and development. It is essential to note that vehicle development is energy-intensive. As proof, the development of the Taycan required more than 150 calibrations. In this context, charging speed plays a crucial role in the effectiveness of our development process.
The addition of this charging station once again demonstrates WOT’s commitment to the transition to mixed mobility, where thermal, hybrid and electric engines live side-by-side in harmony.
