This incredible 4.4-litre V8 engine has been around for more than 15 years now.

Many major updates leading us today to the N63B44T3 engine producing 530 hp and 750 Nm of torque and labelled the M50i.

This latest evolution of the N63 engine replaces the N63B44M3, fitted in the X5 and X7 xDrive50i and producing 462 hp. Although it is not widespread in Europe, this alternative to the S63 engine fitted to 8-cylinder M versions is very popular in the United States.

This V8 has exactly the same torque as the S63 but with reduced power. It is mounted in vehicles whose characteristics are closer to grand tourers, thanks in particular to softer suspensions or less enveloping seats.

The M performance in a regular version: isn't it the best compromise?

The N63B44T3 is an engine whose characteristics are very similar to the S63B44T4 present in the brand’s M vehicles, such as the M5 and M8 models to name but a few. The “T” label on a BMW engine is synonymous with the latest technical evolutions and ultimate performance. The N63B44T3 and S63B44T4 engines have many parts in common, including the connecting rods, for example, which is why identical original torque is found in both engines

The 462 hp N63B44M3, meanwhile, has different characteristics that do not allow it to achieve as much power and torque as its predecessor.

If the main feature of this V8 is to enhance torque, which fits perfectly with the ZF8 gearbox, it is no less fast with an advertised power of 530 hp for an actual result of 570 hp recorded on the dyno.

This nice extra power reminds us once again of the similarities with its S63 predecessor, especially when we consider that Alpina, BMW preparer, brings the power of this same engine up to 612 hp, just 13 hp short of the M version.

Thanks to WOT know-how, we can extract similar power and torque to that of the reprogrammed S63 engine. On the road, this translates into a very high torque availability with a full curve at all engine speeds

The development process

We select the vehicle which combines the most significant criteria contributing to pollution, in particular: consumption, weight, air resistance (drag coefficient) and type of transmission. For this N63TU3 engine, we opted for the BMW X7 M50i model. If the vehicle successfully passes the numerous pollution tests, the official verification body can logically conclude that the other, less polluting models in the range will also obtain positive results. This is why, within WOT, such importance is given to the engine code.

What about the warranty?

At WOT, we invest heavily in research and development to provide you with an experience where performance and reliability go hand in hand. However, it is possible that during a routine inspection, the manufacturer has detected that your vehicle has undergone modifications. Even if the improvements made by WOT are homologated, this detection can lead to the loss of the factory warranty.

For this reason we have created an additional motor warranty, specifically designed to meet your highest demands.
