Introduction

The rebirth of a legend.

Audi RS3 engine front
Audi’s adventure with five-cylinder engines began in 1976 with the launch of the Audi 100, marking the advent of the first car powered by a 2.3-litre atmospheric engine. This engine came in 115 hp and 136 hp variants, marking the beginning of a new era in automotive engineering.

Over the years, this engine has evolved remarkably, giving rise to spin-offs that took their first steps in turbocharging technology. This evolution reached its peak with 315 kW of power in the RS2 Avant in 1989, setting new standards in automotive performance.

After a hiatus of nearly two decades, an all-new five-cylinder turbo engine, developing 340 horsepower, made a triumphant return to the Audi line-up with the launch of the TT RS in spring 2009. It was at that precise moment that François was seduced by this model, initially available only with a manual transmission, thus pushing him to undertake his own electronic development project.

This new generation of the R5 merged the basis of the Audi TFSI combustion process with the most recent advances in turbocharging of the time. It immediately inherited the success of its predecessors, winning the title of “Engine of the Year” internationally on seven consecutive occasions. Today, this engine continues to power models like the RS 3 Sportback and RS Q3, and it has become the cornerstone of a major overhaul of Audi’s powertrain.

An engine that meets today's demands

If the CEPA engine (already developing 340 horsepower) was already acclaimed for its performance, it is undeniable that the engine that has truly made its mark is the DAZA. Even outclassing its predecessor, the 367-horsepower CZGB, which has failed to conquer the community of engine reprogramming professionals, largely due to its injection system limitations. The DAZA is noteworthy for its dual injection (direct and indirect), offering a generous original power of 400 horsepower thanks to a new Bosch MED17.1.62 electronic management system.

However, Audi had to modify the DAZA engine to comply with the emission standards, thus giving rise to the DNWA engine, successor to the DAZA. Although on paper its original performance is similar, it was unfortunately hampered by the addition of a particulate filter system (OPF), increasing back pressure and limiting both power and sound. The DNWC then followed, making minor modifications to the latest models of the four-ringed brand.

The development process

We select the vehicle which combines the most significant criteria contributing to pollution, in particular: consumption, weight, air resistance (drag coefficient) and type of transmission. For this EA855 evo DNWC engine, we opted for the Audi RS3 2.5 TFSI OPF model. If the vehicle successfully passes the numerous pollution tests, the official verification body can logically conclude that the other, less polluting models in the range will also obtain positive results. This is why, within WOT, such importance is given to the engine code.

What about the warranty?

At WOT, we invest heavily in research and development to provide you with an experience where performance and reliability go hand in hand. However, it is possible that during a routine inspection, the manufacturer has detected that your vehicle has undergone modifications. Even if the improvements made by WOT are homologated, this detection can lead to the loss of the factory warranty.

For this reason we have created an additional motor warranty, specifically designed to meet your highest demands.
